SUMMARY:Text Me Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:Text Me follows a day in the life of 10 diverse women and non-binary female presenting people\, depicting their fears\, challenges\, and barriers they face living in a world made for and catered to men. Although they don’t all know each other\, their stories all tie together in an unspoken pact to keep each other safe “Text me when you get home/Text me when you’re on your way/We look out for each other”. \nLoose Tea Music Theatre in partnership with Suzart Productions developed Text Me from the conversations in our round table discussions with the cast about living in a patriarchal society and violence carried out by men against women. Their stories and passion inspired creative team Alaina Viau (Creator)\, Samuel Bisson (Composer)\, and Charlotte Siegel (Librettist). \nTickets\n  \n\nTeam\nAlaina Viau\, Creator\nSamuel Bisson\, Composer\nCharlotte Siegel\, Librettist

SUMMARY:Compassionate and Resilient Creative Leadership
DESCRIPTION:As creatives\, our goal is to create new and exciting projects. But if our creativity is not rooted in resilience and compassion then we cannot sustain the demands of creative leadership. The truth is that creative leaders struggle with higher burnout rates\, chronic fatigue and stress than the general population\, which often leads to a lack of creativity and focus. \nIn this 2 day workshop Shirin will breakdown what compassion and resilience looks like at work\, at home and in relationships. By learning simple but effective mindset and mindfulness exercises you will learn how to become a more creative and effective leader through the pillars of compassion and resilience. \nShirin Eskandani is a teacher\, facilitator and guide who specializes in mindfulness\, mindset and manifestation. She has been a featured wellness expert on the Today Show\, The New York Times\, Shape and Cosmopolitan Magazine. Prior to building her successful coaching business she was an award winning opera singer\, performing at Carnegie Hall and The Metropolitan Opera. \nFind out more! \nTickets\n

SUMMARY:Seamstress
DESCRIPTION:Seamstress is a documentary opera based on the collected oral histories of Palestinian women and girls from Donia Jarrar’s family and community. Blending audio interviews\, photography\, and raw footage with live chamber orchestra and dance performances\, Seamstress aims to create a moving and powerful portrait of love\, strength\, and resistance in the face of injustice and misinformation. It is an interdisciplinary record of Donia’s Palestinian matriarchal lineage and a radical reclamation of an otherwise forgotten and erased Indigenous history. \nBefore the watch party\, “Donia Jarrar & Debi Wong (Festival Curator) talk about Seamstress and how our lived experiences shape our creative voices.” \nFind out more! \nTickets\n  \n\nCreator\nDonia Jarrar

SUMMARY:Did I Just Say That? - LIVE
DESCRIPTION:A friendship is tested when Cecilia\, a white composer\, tries to convince her roommate\, Gabriella\, a writer of colour – who has just returned home from a #MeToo moment with a TV producer – to enter a new opera competition together. Their debate about the whiteness of opera\, the problematic portrayal of racialized women\, and whether they should enter the competition devolves into a “diva-off” that features musical quotes from some of the most famous arias in the canon. \nInspired by actual events\, the 20-minute comedic operetta explores themes of feminism\, racial intersectionality\, and what it means to embody artistic risk in a patriarchal society in which women must diminish or silence themselves in order to get ahead. We believe the heart of a diva beats in every social justice warrior’s chest! \nTickets\n\n  \n\nTeam\nKaterina Gimon\, Composer\nValerie Sing Turner\, Librettist / Director\nDebi Wong\, Dramaturg\nPerri Lo\, Musical Direction\nEmma Parkinson\, Mezzo-Soprano\nEva Tavares\, Soprano\nCo-commissioned by re:Naissance Opera & Visceral Visions

SUMMARY:Walking at Night By Myself - LIVE
DESCRIPTION:Led by Nancy Tam\, Walking at Night by Myself presents a world of abstraction\, distraction\, and overlapping patterns through which we slowly examine the plasticity of human perception and open up to questions of how notions of familiarity\, difference\, and impressions are constructed. Created under the hospice of A Wake of Vultures (Nancy Tam\, Daniel O’Shea and Conor Wylie)\, this work explores connections between movement\, sonic\, scenographic\, and conceptual ideas with hypnotic repetitions\, twin-like presentation\, afterimage\, and moiré to transcend the spectacular to the phenomenological; from seeing to experiencing. \nFind out more! \nTickets\n  \n\nTeam\nNancy Tam\nDaniel O’Shea\nConor Wylie
