Presented by artist and musician Ruby Singh\, with key collaborators Tarun Nayar (Modern Biology)\, Fiana Kawane (Kathak)\, and Priyanka Chakrabati (PIU)\, Laine Butler\, Michelle La (Ephemeral Objects) the work explores how data sonifications\,visualizations and field recordings can raise ecological awareness. \nFuture Renaissance:\nCreated by Voirelia Dance Hub; Artistic Director/Choreographer: Alina Sotskova\n \nSet 500 years from now\, Future Renaissance is a fusion of virtuosic contemporary dance\, sci-fi\, and Renaissance art. A dance of ephemeral sculptures in motion unfolds in a cyberpunk-esque setting. Voirelia brings together artists from dance\, lighting\, music\, and visual art to create a performance that blends past\, present\, and future. In this mesmerizing and unsettling world\, creating real bonds among people is a lost art. Yet\, a deep longing for the lost is stirring a rebellious revival. Through evocative choreographic imagery and vivid lighting design\, Future Renaissance explores fears of loss and the search for connection\, inviting reflection on how relationships define our humanity.

SUMMARY:NOV 22 | Soft Tongues at Lobe Studio
DESCRIPTION:IndieFest 2024 presents Future Mythologies\, this year’s showcase of new works in development by groundbreaking artists.\n \nFuture Mythologies is a celebratory showcase for the new works in development that aspire to redefine the future of storytelling\, and become the myths of tomorrow.\nThis year’s Future Mythologies celebrates transformative and transcendent experiences in development by Jami Reimer at Lobe Studio on Nov 22\, and also check out Ruby Singh and Alina Sotskova on Nov 23 at the Annex. \nFri\, November 22 | 7:30pm at Lobe Studio:\n713 E Hastings St\, Vancouver\, BC V6A 1R3 \nGET TICKETS\n—\nSoft Tongues by Jami Reimer \nThe tongue of the frog is of the softest known biological materials on this planet. It is this softness that yields the stickiness needed to pluck a fly from mid air\, slough skin in perpetual acts of self-consumption\, and stretch voice in promulgating chorusing networks. \nJoined by bioacousticians\, Jami’s field recorder\, and an amphibious choir\, this work invites full swamp submersion as we listen episodically through the shapeshifting life (and afterlife) cycle of the frog. \nSpeak in tongues! Breath through your skin! Inherit the earth! \n

SUMMARY:NOV 21 & 22 | ULTRA VIOLETS
DESCRIPTION:IndieFest 2024 presents Alexandra Caprara’s ULTRA VIOLETS at the Annex.\n\nTwo performance dates:\n\nThurs\, November 22 | 7:30pm\nFri\, November 23 | 7:30pm\nAt Signals Studio at the Centre for Digital Media.\n\nGET TICKETS\n—\nThrough a physical exploration of the ways queer club culture\, plant growth cycles\, and sapphic intimacy intersect\, ULTRA VIOLETS subverts our expectations of what queer becoming looks like\, and depicts this process as cause for celebration. Set within a world that is part greenhouse\, part underground dance club\, this dance- theatre piece draws on the history of disco and plant life to propose a new perspective on what it means to grow into oneself. Using integrated design\, plenty of disco balls\, and dirt\, we offer a glimpse into this process and ask one question: do you want to dance?\n\n\n\nContent and Flashing Light Notice: This performance contains strobing lights throughout\, some loud sounds\, and brief strong language.

SUMMARY:NOV 15-17 | Eurydice Fragments
DESCRIPTION:IndieFest 2024 presents the World Premiere of Eurydice Fragments. Join us for an immersive live theatre experience at Signals Studio\, at the Centre for Digital Media.\n\nTickets: Regular: $25–45 \nFour Performance Dates:\nFri\, November 15th | 7:30pm\nSat\, November 16th | 2:00pm\nSat\, November 16th | 7:30pm\nSun\, November 17th | 2:00pm\n \nGET TICKETS\n— \nEurydice Fragments is a contemporary version of the Orphean Greek myth that fuses powerful vocal performance\, dance\, extended reality\, motion capture and interactive technologies. Through an immersive exploration of our digital and carbon existences\, the performance dissolves the binaries we are bound to from birth until death\, and strums the threads between heaven and hell\, male and female\, maker and muse\, performer and audience. \nThe story follows O\, a trans person whose sense of gender and identity is expansive — yet who has lived a fractured life. Haunted by past experiences and personhoods that have been suppressed\, repressed\, or condemned\, O journeys to the Styx\, a queerbar\, where they find the opportunity to express themself through avatars in extended reality. As O navigates the fluid landscapes of identity and technology\, Eurydice Fragments challenges us to question: how do we navigate the vastness of our identities in spaces that resist our multiplicity? \nContent note for representations of intersex/trans/nonbinary-erasure\, in the form of oppressive language and systemic prejudice: these are things our production attempts to disrupt. Specific scenes draw on oppressive language around prenatal identification of intersex genetics\, and on legal language enforcing limitations on gender fluidity. \n— \nLearn More about Eurydice Fragments\n—\n\nPerformers: \nTeiya Kasahara as O\nBrandon Thornhill as Hope\nToddy as Plusephone\nLeo D.E Johnson as Charon\nSara Vickruck\, Chorus\nAlyssa Samson\, Chorus\nAsitha Tennekoon\, Chorus\nScribbly Doodle\, Beatboxer\nJen Lewin\, Co-Music Director & Keyboardist\nPerri Lo\, Co-Music Director & Keyboardist\nAlex Chen\, Co-Music Director & Keyboardist \napprox runtime: 90 mins \nIf you need accessible seating\, please indicate via the checkbox in checkout or contact marketing@reopera.com.\nIf you are Indigenous\, Inuit\, or Métis: Contact marketing@reopera.com for access to free tickets. \nGetting There\nSignals Studio at CDM is accessible by public transportation.
